Getting out of debt isn’t easy.
And, it’s not supposed to be.
We get into debt slowly.
And then, we get used to being in debt.
We tolerate it.
Until it seems normal.
If we want to raise the roof on our net worth.
If we want to really get out of debt.
We’ve got to be willing to do the difficult.
Even the impossible.
We can’t expect to stay unconscious.
We can’t expect to mindlessly, comfortably, gently walk our way to being debt free.
To do anything great.
We’ve got to be great.
In our minds.
In our actions.
And in our lives.
We can’t just expect greatness. Freedom. Or wealth.
To just happen to us.
This isn’t a fairy tale.
It’s real life.
If we really want to raise the roof.
We’ve got to have the mind.
The work ethic.
And determination of an elite athlete.
Athletes know that they have to work through pain.
They work even when they are tired.
They practice at their edge.
They compete against their own times.
They believe in themselves.
Athletes know that there are days when their game is off.
And they miss more times than they make it.
And that no matter what.
They will still come to practice tomorrow.
They know that with determination, focus and practice comes greatness.
And greatness isn’t a destination.
It’s a quick stop on a journey.
That never ends.
If you want to get out of debt. You’ve got to do the work.
You’ve got to want financial freedom more than you want instant gratification.
And it doesn’t just stop there.
Because once you pay off your debt.
There won’t be a parade.
You won’t get a medal.
Not even a standing ovation.
And you’ve got to be willing.
To go back to practice, the following day.
And give it all the you’ve got.
Push your muscles harder.
Stretch your mind beyond it’s latest limit.
Because there will be a new game to play.
It’s called creating wealth.
Not for the assholes that you just paid off.
Not for all the mistakes you paid off.
Not for anyone.
And this game isn’t any easier than the last.
If you don’t up your play, you’ll just plateau.
You’ve got to raise the roof.
And bring it.
